Setting

  • In 1929, Germany entered a time of economic depression and the unemployment rate was high. The Nazis capitalized on the situation by criticizing the ruling government and began to win elections.
  • In January 1933, Hitler was appointed German chancellor. This is when every aspect of life was to be controlled by the Nazi government
  • Hitler was able to manipulate the nation by blaming the loss of the world war and the falling economy all on the Jews. This meant this asserted the Nazi’s as the dominant race. The government was now only run by the Nazi party as all other political parties were banned and the public now had a feeling of hatred towards the Jews.
  • Concentration camps were formed where any other people other than Nazis were captured where they would either be executed, starved to death or do slave labor. These camps often turned into death camps, for example Dachau.
