Color

The first reference to color in ‘The Book Thief” is displayed on the cover where there are red splotches beside a unrevealed and mysterious character. Red symbolizes passion, anger and willpower and is the color of blood and fire. I’m predicting that because of the color red is on the cover it will be related to the mysterious character and this is showing the personalty of him or her. Because this character has been displayed on the cover I consider it as this is one of the main characters. Therefore this may be significant as the actions the character does may be influenced by what red symbolizes and could effect the story line.

White- “first up is something white. Of the blinding kind

Black- ” Next is the signature black to show the poles of my versatility, if you like. It was the darkest moment before the dawn

Red- “The last time I saw her was red… there were black crumbs, and pepper streaked amongst the redness.”

“His legs poked out from a red-and-white robe with a black swastika burned into its back.” this is from when max was dreaming about fighting adolf Hitler in a boxing match.
